christmas time is here . shoots & ladders

Amanda + Brent  |  Claire  |  Millie  |  Shoots & Ladders

Several times a year we embark on the fun adventure of dreaming up bright ideas and making big plans. We turn our natural light studio into a themed set for mini sessions, and we call this Shoots & Ladders.

In early November we tackled an arsenal of paper and marshmallows. Armed with a glue gun, some very sticky tape, and one very late night, we created our Christmas Time is Here set. I’ve been holding onto these to give our wonderful clients time to get their Christmas cards in the mail. Since it’s close to Christmas, I can finally share them here. I hope you enjoy taking a stroll through our little marshmallow wonderland!

We’ll be announcing our next Shoots & Ladders set in January. Be sure to visit the website page and sign up for our newsletter to learn about upcoming sessions. Spots are always limited and we sell out quick. Getting on our email newsletter is a sure way to find out as soon as sessions open for booking!

Engagement  |  Millie  |

Several years ago I met Laura and Ryan while they were modeling for me during a shoot. I knew at that time they were perfect for one another, and I hoped that one day I would get to shoot their wedding. Fast forward life a bit and here we are… outdoors in the perfect location, on the perfect day, with two people that just seem to fit together perfectly, celebrating their engagement. I could not be more excited to be photographing their wedding this coming May!

My most favorite things I learned on this day: Discovering more about the two of you, how you met and what happened in life to get you where you are. How you both wear a bracelet that has a special significance. How Ryan smiles at Laura with biggest grin. How comfortable Laura is in Ryan’s arms. Learning about the craigs list search for the perfect couch, which Laura found. The fact that Ryan built that bike himself, stinkin’ awesome!

Engagement  |  Rachel  |

I found out on Facebook (where else) that our fabulously talented former MHP intern, Renee, was engaged.  Justin took her to Cape Lookout to pop the question and they plan to tie the knot in June.  I remember wondering (after telling her congrats) who her wedding photographer would be.  A few months later, I got a text from her that read:

“Guess who’s photographing my wedding?  You!!!”

I can’t tell you how excited, honored, overwhelmed and proud I was that she picked me! Probably almost as excited as Justin is to be her groom.  Renee and Justin’s engagement session was shot in their hometown by the Pisgah covered bridge.  Asheboro, North Carolina, is beautiful this time of year!

What I remember most about our time together was how Justin’s face lit up when he looked at Renee and how happy I felt for this sweet couple.

a new kind of bridal show

Amanda + Brent  |  Bits & Pieces  |  Millie  |  Rachel  |  Rebecca  |  Weddings  |

I’ve been in this industry for 12+ years now. I’ve seen my fair share of bridal shows. They can serve as a great resource for brides. They can also create mass chaos and confusion. Who to choose? How to know who you want and connect with someone while you are in the midst of a cattle call environment? How do you remember what you saw and who you met after returning home with a bag stuffed full of information? It’s just too much sometimes.

I’ve recently joined forces with the best wedding professionals and venues in Wilmington, NC to help bring brides a more relaxed and enjoyable show. We didn’t even want to call this a bridal show so we’ve labeled it, Courtyards and Cobblestones: “A Walk Through Wedding Row”. During this historic tour, you will walk through 2 blocks of Downtown Wilmington with a guide to lead the way. You’ll hear about the beautiful history Wilmington has to offer and at each of the 4 venues, you’ll have the opportunity to mix and mingle with wedding professionals who have teamed up to create a real wedding day.

No booths and vinyl banners, just us… in our environment, showing you what we have to offer and striking up conversation along the way!

If you are getting married in Wilmington, NC you don’t want to miss this event! For more information, find Courtyards & Cobblestones on the web, facebook, twitter, or buy tickets here.

The Truth Booth will be set up and running at this event so be sure to hop in and show us a little of your truly humorous side, it’s gonna be a good time!

I’m so excited for this Show!!! It’s going to be fantastic.

This sounds like it will be a great event! No elbow-to-elbow chaos! Can’t wait to hear how it goes 🙂

I suggest contacting the event coordinator, Abi, through the Courtyards and Cobblestones website. Abi would know if there are any spaces still open for wedding professionals.

Are you accepting other business professionals to talk about the cosmetics side of the wedding day? I would love to represent Mary Kay Cosmetics. Thank you!

Rebecca  |  Weddings  |

Katie and Drew’s amazing wedding took place on Figure 8 Island.  You might remember their super fun engagement session that we did underwater!  They are the most fun couple, their wedding day was nothing short of gorgeous!  The bright blue skies made for the perfect backdrop for their first look, and Katie worked in some time around sunset for more photos of just the two of them!

Katie and Drew, my favorite things about the two of you are how excited you were to see each other on your wedding day, and how comfortable you are in each others’ arms.
